Madras Art Weekend is an initiative to bring together art enthusiasts, galleries, collectors, and anyone with a penchant for the world of art to witness a city-wide showcase of art by emerging and established artists.

The focus is to create a synergy, dialogue, interaction and a platform that is relevant, experiential and sensorial. From art talks by prominent artists to avid collectors opening up their homes to curious admirers, from galleries engaging with various art professionals to the very best of creative workshops, the endeavour is to bring together several art and design enthusiasts, broaden the reach and relevance of contemporary art and to reinvent and rediscover the narrative on the city’s artscape.

Between November 29 to December 3, Madras Art Weekend hosted art exhibitions and panel discussions, and display art installations against the backdrop of several heritage buildings in the city of Chennai.

MAW 2023 was rooted in narratives around the community and the core values of Compassion and Connection. We focused more on student outreach and the inclusion of educational institutions and people from marginalised communities. We partnered with knowledge partners, NGOs, museums, patrons of the arts, the diplomatic community, the local government, and most of all the people of Chennai.

This event seeks to be an annual legacy for Chennai, with the collaborative participation of key players in the contemporary art scene and cultural organisations showcased against the backdrop of this heritage city.

2024

This year, we have hosted walkthroughs of art collections in the homes of some of Chennai's renowned art collectors such as Narayan Lakshman and Chandra Lulla. We also had some fun workshops, including a workshop on watercolours by Vellachi and a portraiture workshop by Nivedita. We also partnered with NGOMogra to distribute menstrual cups to women in Kovalam.

We have more fun events planned this year. Watch this space and follow us on Instagram for updates!
