Madras Art Weekend brings together art lovers, galleries, collectors, and creatives for a city-wide celebration of both emerging and established artists. The event fosters dialogue and interaction through art talks, gallery engagements, collector home tours, studio tours and hands-on workshops. While MAW hosts events year-round, the weekend serves as the flagship event, offering an immersive experience that expands the reach and relevance of contemporary art in Chennai.

Founded in 2022, MAW seeks to be an annual legacy for Chennai with the collaborative participation of key players in the contemporary art scene and cultural organisations showcased against the backdrop of this heritage city.

This year, we hosted art collection walkthroughs in the homes of Chennai’s renowned collectors, including Narayan Lakshman, Chandra Lulla, and Nirmala Lakshman. We held fun workshops on watercolours with Vellachi, portraiture with Nivedita, and mixed media with Shiva Ravishankar. We also partnered with NGOMogra to distribute menstrual cups to women in Kovalam.

In collaboration with The Hindu Made of Chennai and Indicus Paints, we organised “Madras As An Emotion,” a group show featuring 38 emerging and established artists.

A Thousand Cuts by @sujatasetia is a series of portraits and stories that present a photographic study of patterns of domestic abuse in the South Asian community.
